Las Americas joined the protest concerning the detention of Mexican journalist Emilio Guitierrez Soto.

Soto fled persecution in Mexico because of his news stories on Mexican army abuses. After preseting himself at the border with his son, they asked for asylum. They have been detained since June.

Often this is the pattern, whether it be Christians fleeing possible death in their home countries for spreading the gospel or persecuted ethnic groups, ICE uses indefinite detention to chisel away at the hopes of asylees so they will grow tired of detention and give in to deportation and possible death in their home countries.
